Dear Shannon and John,
I was away on a trip last week and was so grieved to hear about the passing of your beautiful, kind, and precious Mother. How I wished that i could have been here for the memorial service to honor Kathy. Our friendship began when I had the honor of teaching you, John, in kindergarten. How I loved having you as a student and will always remember your singing "Sneaky Snakes" with the microphone. We both loved to sing and were both in the Appalachian Chorale. She sang in the alto section and I sat in the soprano section and so I could see her beautiful face across the room every Monday for many, many years. During the last few years, I taught the exercise class at Brian Estates. She always came and meant so much to all of us. Your mother was so brave. Even though, she knew that there was no cure, she spent everyday as if she would be living many more years How I wished that she could have! I loved her so very much and will ;miss my dear friend. My prayers and best wishes are with you both.

My sympathy to Kathy's family. Your loss is shared by a community where Kathy was deeply loved and appreciated. I worked with her in the Education Department at Watauga Hospital where her compassionate, peaceful presence and wise, quiet strength provided comfort to so many. Such a great lady!

Kathy will always be one of my favorite people, as she helped bring my daughter into this world...stayed three hours after her shift was up to assist with a difficult delivery. She was a wonderful lady and always knew me and spoke every time we met. Her presence in this world was a gift. Katherine Jackson family, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Kathy was there at the birth of our first child so was really our introduction to Boone. Later I knew Kathy from BUMC and her experience helped meld the altos in the chancel choir into a strong presence. Even after she had to quit the choir, she continued coming to church regularly and everyone greeted her warmly. She will be missed. May her family be comforted by knowing Kathy gave her best to the community.
