I was scanning the obits and came across Joe's. I did not know Joe or ever met him but his obituary just touched me. I lost a brother at a young age, where substance abuse contributed. My brother and I were not close as I distanced myself from the pain he caused (unknowingly due to his state of mind, at times) his young son and his parents. Many times he never realized how he hurt us and would have hated to know how badly he did. We tried everything but Russ had to be strong enough to want to help himself first. He always meant well but the demons just took over.
It sounds like Joe was so talented, his death will truly be a loss to all who knew and loved him.
Please do not be too hard on yourselves. When we are protecting ourselves from being hurt, it always feels like we could have done more for our loved one. I'm sure you did all that you could. It will take a long time to heal from your loss and the circumstances that played a part.
Look to the heavens and let Joe see your smiles, maybe give him a wink. He is now well and guarding all of you, I'm sure.
Bless you all.

I knew Joe, that guy could out walk most folks around Boone. He was highly intelligent, i felt like we could carry on in conversation for hours. Wish i would have known more about his troubles, maybe could have volunteered to lend a hand. Lesson learned. God bless you Joe Graziano.

Joe will be greatly missed by many of the drivers at AppalCART who got to know him in Boone. Joe was a regular rider and was always kind and respectful. We all enjoyed talking with him and getting to know him. You have our sincerest condolences.

To the Graziano family:
I knew Joe when I lived briefly at the Hospitality House in Boone as I waited for my disability to come through last year. I gave him a couple of rides when he needed them, and we talked off and on. He was a sweet and good guy. I am so moved by what you wrote about your truly unconditional love for Joe and your understanding of his complicated and troubled, yet significant, life. You are the family that every family should aspire to, and it is tragic that so many families cannot. Even sometimes, one's own.
I am so sorry for your loss. Joe will be missed. I hope for your family to find some peace as you process your immense grief during these times. What you've done for Joe is noticed and appreciated by so many others.

I only worked at Hospitality House for about four months, but in that time I knew Joe to be a kind person. He was patient with me as I was new, and he was often up for a late night conversation. I hope everyone in mourning knows that Joe's kindness helped ease my transition, and it meant a lot to experience that first hand.
Love to all,
Luke
