I heard Mowa play cello at the Love Feast at First Presbyterian Church Boone on December 8, 2019. He played with such artistry and beauty that evening. I was impressed though I did not know him. I may have thanked him in passing. I hope I did. The service was one of such beauty, warmth and meaning in preparation for the Christmas season. I am so glad he was a part of it. I know we in the choir were blessed by his participation in our service. I will forever be grateful that I heard him play and that he was in our midst if for an evening. My prayer is that you will find comfort in his life and gifts and the assurance that he is safe, well and loved by the Lord and Savior of Mowa and the God of us all.

Choir Member of First Presbyterian Church Boone

He was a very special part of our wedding in 2009 atop Rough Ridge trail on Blue Ridge Parkway. He & his siblings graced the occasion with beautiful, grand music! We will miss you, Mowa!

Couple of memories I have of Mowa. First is back when Mowa & my son, Luke, both 6th or 7th graders at Hardin Park Elementary, had gone on a Saturday morning adventure in the woods, below Howard's Knob, I believe. Bryan Brackney might have been with them. The three of them, possibly others, often went on Saturday adventures together. On that particular Saturday, when the boys arrived on our front porch bearing their bows & arrows made from sticks they found in the woods, Mowa became philosophical as he summed up the experience, "When I left the house this morning, I was a young man. When I returned, I was a warrior."
2nd memory: Fast forward to early 20's. Mowa and several friends are home from college for the weekend and have gathered at our house to prepare for a spur of the moment camp out - I think they were headed to Price Lake. These were last minute plans and it was already dark. As they gathered sleeping bags, tarps, tents and other camping supplies, someone asked Mowa if he needed a sleeping bag or blanket. Mowa replied, "I do not. I'm from Africa. I will sleep on the ground and cover myself with dirt."
Oh how he touched our lives with his incredible personality, giftedness and humor.
