What a wonderful man and a great loss for us and Heaven's gain. I was a student in the 70's and was always fond of Mr. Fidler. He was always fair and gracious. One of my best memories of school was his presence. God bless all of you

I knew Mr. Fidler from Cove Creek and Watauga High. I was 5 years old when I first met him and by the time I was a senior at WHS, I had come to totally respect him not just as an educator but as a human being. My prayers are lifted for his family.

To the Fidler Family:
What a great man Carl was. Having lived in Boone and Beech Mountain, I had the pleasure of knowing him and Perry. Played tennis together in the winters in
Blowing Rock and shared being former Appalachian Basketball players with Carl.
Observed what a great community contributor he was, and educator in Watauga
County. I admired him so much for all the things he had done in his life, and really
enjoyed listening to so many of his interesting life stories. He lived an outstanding
life and will be remembered by all that knew him.

Our condolence in the dead of Mr. Fidler. He meant much to both of us as he was Glenn's teacher at Cove Creek years ago. He was a good man who not only taught but helped in difficult times. Glenn remembers him fondly. And he was so good to my son Tommy Dale when he was in school, taking an interest in him as no other teacher did. I would wait on Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Winkler at Peppers and he would be with them with his wife. Precious memories. We are so sorry for the loss of this great man who left a beautiful legacy. Our prayers, Glenn and Donna Henson-Johnson Hicks.

I have very fond memories of Mr. Fidler. I graduated in the class of ‘72. I was a bus driver my junior year and had several minor accidents, but none were my fault. I recall, Mr. Fidler shaking his head at me, after my third accident and saying, ‘my goodness, Diana, are we going to have to put extra lights on your bus, so other drivers will know you are coming.’ But, he was laughing as he was trying to get the point across for me to be more cautious. He was just the nicest of men and I know he will be missed by his family and his many friends. May God give peace and comfort at this time.

Although he had to reprimand me a few times my respect for him never wavered. He was a faithful husband, father, teacher and friend. I enjoyed our conversations and he made a great impact on many mountain children, including me! My condolences to The Fidler family.

I have good memories of Mr. Fidler as my principal and later friend. We trusted and respected him as our principal and always felt he treated students fairly. I remember scrapping chewing gum off the bleachers a few times at his request. Whenever I saw him later in life, he always had a friendly word and great smile. He was one of the good ones.
