Jonathan Howard 'Johnny' Ragan, Jr., 72, of Adams Lane, Boone, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 24th 2013, at Carolinas Regional Medical Center in Charlotte. Born November 28, 1940 in Logan, West Virginia, he was a son of Jonathan Howard, Sr. and Arnitta Vaughan Ragan. Johnny was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended Brookside Presbyterian Church. Johnny retired as a maintenance supervisor at ASU and held memberships at the VFW Post 7031, the Boone Moose Lodge and the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club. Johnny loved life, especially his motorcycles and golfing.
Surviving are his son, Johnny Ragan III, and Sandra, of Apotka, Fla.; sister, Carole Muirhead, of Boone; two nieces, Dianna Johnson and Dawn Muirhead, both of Boone; nephew, Christopher Muirhead of Mass.; aunts, Ruby Arnold of Boone, Doris Vaughan of Wilmington, and Juanita Carron of Ohio; great-nephews, Dylan and Jonathan Moody, both of Boone; and great-niece, Karissa Jones of Mass. Also surviving are his special friends, Nancy Hamby of Deep Gap, Dale Greer of Boone; and numerous cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Ragan and a son, Scott Ragan.
Memorial services will be conducted Friday, February 1, 2013, at 11 AM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Larry Young and speaker, Harry Yates. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
