Robert Holt West - World War II veteran
Robert Holt West, 88, of Boone, passed away Oct. 26, 2012, in Bellingham, Washington. He was born on Sept. 18, 1924, in Dunn, and was the son of E. C. West and Irma J. West.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Duke University. He also earned a J.D. Degree from the Temple University, in Philadelphia, Penn. He taught in Mildford, Del., and then came back to North Carolina to teach in several different universities and before retiring he also practiced law.
He was an outstanding muscian. He especially enjoyed returning to Duke University for reunions with the Duke Glee Club. He was a Master Bridge player and loved to ski and play tennis.
He is survived by his son, Pinckney Seigler West of Boone; two daughters, Leslie Saunderson of Bellingham, Wash., Melanie Boltax of Mariette, Ga.; and five grandchildren, Robert W. Saunderson, Amanda M. Duggin, Elizabeth S. Stackhouse, all of Bellingham, Wash., and Zachary W. Boltax and Jacob B. Boltax, both of Mariette, Ga.
There will be a West family memorial in Charlotte and a memorial service, Saturday, November 10, at 2:00 PM at Faithbridge United Methodist Church, Blowing Rock, NC.
