Mrs. Reba Coffey Townsend, age 83, of Dutch Creek Road, Banner Elk, died Friday evening, March 7, 2008 at home. Born April 24, 1924 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Harston and Nila Roe Coffey. Mrs. Townsend was a member of Clarks Creek Baptist Church and a homemaker. Surviving are her husband; Charles Mack Townsend, one daughter; Wanda Cline, two sons; Charles Edward Townsend, Larry Dale Townsend, a loving daughter in law, Lorene Townsend, a loving son in law, George Ray Cline, all of the Dutch Creek Community, eight grandchildren; Charlie Townsend, Travis Townsend, Maria and Chad Cole, Amy Cline, Scott and Jessie Townsend, Mitchell and Alicia Townsend, Shannon and Alania Townsend, and Rosie Maria Hillard, seven great grandchildren, one sister; Gertrude Isaacs of Banner Elk and one brother, Truett Coffey and wife Joyce of Mountain City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Byrd and one brother, Bynum Coffey. Funeral services for Mrs. Reba Coffey Townsend will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Clarks Creek Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Warren and Rev. Mike Townsend. Burial will follow in the Clarks Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o'clock. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 until 9 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Austin & Barnes Funeral Home is serving the Townsend family.
