Major Ryan Scott David age 35, of Boone passed away Sunday July 1, in South Dakota while serving his country. He was one of the four crew members who perished on the MAFFS #7 C-130 fighting the White Draw Fire near Edgemont, South Dakota.
He was born April 3, 1977 in Bellevue, Nebraska. Major David was an experienced highly decorated navigator and a member of the NC National Guard 145th Air Lift Wing based in Charlotte. Prior to joining the Guard, he had over 10 years of active duty experience in the US Air Force and served on multiple deployments to Southwest Asia. He was also employed by USIS in Winchester, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife; Jenny Ellerbe, one son; Robert (Rob) Scott Ellerbe David, their dog; Kayleigh, his father; Daniel So David and wife; Flor of Chevy Chase, Maryland, his mother; Rina Swank David-Claytor of Silver Spring, Maryland and her husband; W. Richard, three brothers; Bradley �B. J.� David and Paul David of Silver Spring, Maryland, and JDee David of Chevy Chase, Maryland, two sisters; Reyna Claytor and Richelle �Rica� Claytor of Silver Spring, Maryland, his mother and father-in-law; Robert and Scotty Ellerbe �Dad & Mom� of Boone, a brother-in-law; Hames Ellerbe �Bro� of Hood River, Oregon, his maternal grandfather; Charles Swank of Bellevue, Nebraska, his paternal grandmother; Ambrosia David of Hyattsville, Maryland, his cherished military family, and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and many beloved friends.
Funeral services for Major Ryan Scott David will take place on Saturday, July 14 at 2pm at the Appalachian State University Holmes Convocation Center with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock, NC. He will be buried with full military honors. The family will receive friends Friday, July 13, 2012 from 2 until 4 pm at Boone United Methodist Church.
