Mr. Orris Eugene "Gene" Hayes Jr., age 68, of Blowing Rock and a former resident of Sugar Grove, passed away Wednesday morning, June 27, 2012 at Blowing Rock Hospital. Born September 7, 1943 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Orris Eugene Hayes Sr., and Onamae Teague Hayes. Gene was a carpenter and equipment operator.
He is survived by four daughters; Rosie Edwards and husband Keith of Morganton, Rachel Newman and husband Eddie of Sugar Grove, Susan Fuentes and husband Gustavo of Boone and Ariel Dixon of Florida, one son David Hayes and wife Kathy of Boone, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one sister; Audie Earp of Sugar Grove.
Graveside services for Mr. Gene Hayes will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the Hampton Yates Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. David Ward and Rev. T. J. Jackson.
