Mrs. Garland Rivenbark Carr, age 95, of Green Street, Blowing Rock, and formerly of Wallace, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at her home. Born December 20, 1918 in Duplin County, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Fannie Ezzell Rivenbark. Mrs. Carr was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Rose Hill, and retired from the Wallace Elementary School as a teacher and librarian. Surviving Mrs. Carr are her son, Joe Carr and wife, Judy, of Blowing Rock; two grandsons, Myron Carr and wife, Jessica, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and Jonathan Carr and wife, Kate, of Durango, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Rylie Carr and Skylar Carr; three sisters, Carolyn Brinkley and Emily Wells, both of Wallace, and Mary Lillie Matthews, of Surf City; and her special caregiver, Yvonne Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Columbus Carr; and one brother, Chapman Rivenbark. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday morning, January 25, 2014, at 10 o'clock at the Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville. Funeral services for Garland Rivenbark Carr will be conducted Saturday afternoon, January 25, 2014, at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church in Rose Hill. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock, one hour prior to services, at the church. Burial will follow at Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church in Rose Hill.
