Obituary of Arnold C. Presnell

Mr. Arnold Coolidge Presnell, age 87, of Bryant Combs Road, Sugar Grove, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 16, 2012 after a battle against mesothelioma. Born August 9, 1924 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Roby and Ida Tester Presnell. Mr. Presnell was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church which he attended most of his life. He was retired from ASU. Arnold was a US Army Veteran having served during WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Presnell of 64 years, of the home, two daughters,
Wanda Combs and husband Terry, Kathy Oakes and husband Rick, both of Sugar
Grove; two grandsons, Laramie Combs and wife Angela, and Dallas Oakes and wife
Jessie; all of Sugar Grove, a special great granddaughter Natalie Combs � �The
Apple of his eye.� He is also survived by one brother, James Ottie Presnell of High
Point; two brother-in-laws, Hillard Ward and wife Linda of Sugar Grove, Jimmy Ballew
of Winston-Salem, a sister-in-law Carolyn McGuire of Boone, and many nieces and
nephews. He is survived by many life-long and faithful friends.
Arnold lived a quiet life of faith and found much contentment and enjoyment in his family and friends. He loved his church family also. He and Marie loved gardening and produced a bountiful garden each year. He enjoyed watching the Braves on TV. He was privileged to be a part of the group of WWII veterans that left from Boone last year to be a part of the Honor Flight to Washington, DC to see the WWII memorials. This was a highlight of his life.
Funeral services for Arnold Collidge Presnell will be conducted Wednesday, June 20,
2012, at 2 o�clock at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Herbert McCoy and Rev. Mike McElhaney. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o�clock.
Military graveside rites provided by the American Legion Post 130 will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
