Obituary of Nelson Greer

Mr. L. Nelson Greer, Jr., age 68, of Moore Mountain Road, Vilas, passed away Friday afternoon June 15, 2012 at home after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Born January 23, 1944 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Willie Jane Greer. Mr. Greer was a US Navy Veteran having served on the USS Perkins and was a retired business owner. Nelson was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, Watauga Aero-Modelers, and a Tin Can Sailor. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, woodworking and model airplanes. He is survived by his wife; Teresa Rhymer Greer, one son; Michael Greer and wife Tammi of Vilas, one daughter; Melissa Blocker and husband Jeremy of Boone, a special niece; Jennifer Pastusic of Vilas, three grandchildren; Tiffani Burr, Ivy Greer and Jace Blocker, three sisters; Betty Wood and husband Leroy of Boone, Louise Moretz of Boone, and Joyce Carlton and husband Grady of Fleetwood, two brothers; Loye Greer and wife Peggy of Boone and Troy Greer and wife Elaine of Boone, his mother in law; Faye Rhymer of Deep Gap. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Bill Greer. Funeral services for Mr. Nelson Greer will be conducted Monday evening at 6 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Gary Lawrence and Tim Moretz. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130 will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon prior to the service from 4 o�clock until 6 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Flowers are appreciated.
