Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Hampton Jewell, age 71, of Snow Camp, NC and a former resident of Todd, passed away Monday morning at Duke Home Care and Hospice\'s Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Born September 25, 1940 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Theodore Augustus (\"Gus\") and Edna Serena Greer Hampton.
Mrs. Jewell was a lifelong learner, and talented artist who painted in acrylics and oils. She loved to sew and designed clothing as well as pieces of fabric art. Mrs. Jewell was for some years a realtor in the Boone area and helped to run a number of her husband\'s restaurants. She was a descendant of the first settlers of the High Country and a member of the Daniel Boone Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her children Donald Miller and wife Alice Loftin of Greeneville, TN; and James Michael Miller and wife Susan of Harmony, NC; and Serena Jewell of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren: James Miller and Nathan Miller of Harmony, NC, Madison Welsh, John Patrick Welsh, and Cate Welsh of Raleigh, NC; three sisters: Kaye Nolte of Millersville, MD; Evalee Stone of Spartanburg, SC; and Bonnie Steelman and husband Harold of Deep Gap; and one brother: Dale Hampton and wife Marie of Boone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Louis Jewell.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o\'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Homer Murdock. Burial will follow in the Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon prior to the service from 1 until 2 o\'clock at the funeral home.
