Obituary of Winston Kinsey

Dr. Winston Lee Kinsey, age 68, of Lawrence Greene Road, Deep Gap, passed away Monday evening January 9, 2012 at his residence. Born March 7, 1943 in Lampasas, Texas, he was a son of the late Lee Roy and Loretta Hazel Jernigan Kinsey. Dr. Kinsey received his PhD in History from Texas Tech University in 1969. He taught at Appalachian State University for 35 years and was a former Assistant Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Winston was a Watauga County Commissioner for six years and a member of First Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Winston was also a Mason and a member of Ashlar Lodge #373 AF & AM. He is survived by his wife Barbara Kinsey, two daughters; Tricia Kinsey Masters and husband David L. Masters, MD of Lenoir, and Robyn Kinsey Mooring and husband Dewey Mooring of Durham, four grandchildren; Benjamin Scott Masters, Rachel Kinsey Masters, Winston Tyler Mooring and Thomas Alexander Mooring, and two brothers; Nolan Kinsey and Travis Kinsey. He was preceded in death by his son; Winston Scott Kinsey and his parents; Lee Roy and Loretta Jernigan Kinsey. A Celebration of Life Service for Dr. Winston Lee Kinsey will be conducted Friday afternoon 2 o�clock at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Roy Dobyns, Rev. Shelly Wilson and Rev. Nancy Sehested. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Parks and Gardens. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Brenner�s Children�s Hospital, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157 or to Watauga County 4-H, in care of Karee Mackey, Cooperative Extension Service, 971 W. King St., Boone, N.C. 28607. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary from 6 o�clock until 8 o�clock.
