Obituary of Tommy S. Burgess

Mr. Tommy Steven Burgess, age 50, of 166 Wildwood Lane, Boone, died Monday morning December 19, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone after battling cancer for four years. Tommy was born May 16, 1961, in Fort Payne, Alabama. He graduated from Tennessee Temple University in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. Tommy worked for Templeton Tours, Inc. for the past 27 years and attended Mount Vernon Baptist Church for 15 years. Tommy served as a Deacon at his church in addition to teaching Sunday school and singing in the church choir. Tommy is survived by his wife of 29 years; Kandi Lyn, two sons; Joshua Steven of Boone and Taylor Ryan and his wife Emily Lauren of Charlotte, one daughter; Brittany Lyn of Boone, his parents; the Rev. T. D. and Joy Burgess of Ringgold, Ga., one brother; the Rev. Samuel Burgess and his wife Gena of Cartersville, Ga., his mother-in-law; Betty Monts de Oca and her husband Bill of Rossville, Ga., and a brother-in-law; Gregory Taylor and his wife Barbara of Rossville, Ga. His is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Tommy Steven Burgess will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
