Mr. Richard Bell Cook, age 81, of Peak Road, Creston, died Saturday evening December 3, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center. Born May 30, 1930 in Aberdeen, NC, he was a son of the late Robert Edward and Nanne Smith Cook. Mr. Cook was retired from the US Air Force. Richard was a Red Cross Volunteer, delivered meals to the home bound, and volunteered at Ashe Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) ; assisting the community during hurricane David. He also assisted with the Hope Mills Volunteer Fire Department with the CERT Program.
Richard is survived by his wife; Gayle Bidleman Cook, four children; Russell Cook of Collegedale, Tennessee, Diana Haun of New Baden, Illinois, Ken Cook of Asheville and Cynthia Hart of Hope Mills, North Carolina, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one brother; Robert Cook of Gainesville, Florida.
