Mrs. Velma Dugger Reece, age 87, of Sugar Grove, died Friday morning at Palliative Care and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born April 2, 1924 in Elk Park, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Dora Ethel Davis Dugger. Mrs. Reece was a retired inspector for Shadowline and was of the Baptist Faith. She is survived by two sons; Harold Lee Reece, Sr., and wife Rebecca of Granite Falls, and Carroll Dale Reece and wife Karen of Hudson, four grandchildren; Harold Lee Reece, Jr., Sherry Reece Cota, Rachel Miller and Jennifer Leasure, 6 great grandchildren; Bethany Philyaw, Ethan Reece, Cassidy Cota, Weston Cota, Ava Leasure and Lauren Leasure, one sister, Malba Leigh Smith and husband Eddie of Baton, one brother John Jay Dugger of Johnson City, TN, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ted Reece, Jr., two sisters; Birdie Dugger and Willie Holman, and four brothers; Harley, Ray, Edward and Billy Gene Dugger. Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Dugger Reece will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Quincy Norris. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock at the funeral home.
