Earl Austin Holman, age 86, of Delmar Street, Boone, died Monday afternoon, February 4, 2008 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. He was born July 9, 1921 in the Buffalo community of Ashe County to David Austin and Veste Rash Holman. Mr. Holman served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He retired from the Town of Boone's Department of Public Works. Mr. Holman is survived by; one son, Ronard Holman and wife Dena; and three grandsons, Heath, Kyle and Cody Holman, all of Lenoir. Fifteen nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Belle Elrod Holman, and two brothers, Albert and Buddy Holman. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Austin. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 2 until 3 o'clock, one hour prior to services, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
