Obituary of Burl J. Miller

Burl Jones Miller, 85, of Sunset Street, NW, Lenoir, and a native and former resident of Watauga County, died Saturday afternoon, October 15, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Born May 17, 1926 in Watauga County, he was a son of Jones Dixon Miller and Meadie Ray Miller.
Burl was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired saw miller.
Mr. Miller is survived by; one daughter, Marlene Crosby and husband, Jerry, of Banner Elk; one son, Dana Miller and wife, Cathy, of Linville; two grandchildren, Sean Dana Miller and wife, Lori, of Connelly Springs and Keri Ann Miller of Charlotte; great granddaughter, Melanie Miller of Connelly Springs, niece, Dr. Martha Holder of Bloomington, Indiana; nephew, Ben Williams of Elkin;one brother-in-law, Reeves Holder; three step-grandchildren, Chassity Smith and husband, Michael of Hickory, Elizabeth Dameko and husband, K. C., of Linville Falls, and Roy Dellinger and wife, Christy, of Elk Park.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Muriel Holder, Furel Tulbert and an infant brother, Leffy Miller.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning, October l8, ,and 2011, at 11 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dana Miller. The body will lie in state at the chapel from 10 until 11 o'clock. Burial will follow at Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 8:30 at Austin & Barnes.
