Obituary of Lola M. Perry

Mrs. Lola Miller Perry, 87, of Horn in the West, Boone, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Lola Miller was born January 18, 1924, in Vilas, NC to Green B. and Annie Presnell Miller. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Boone. Lola graduated from Cove Creek High School in 1941 and retired from the Watauga County Tax Office. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, crocheting, and cheering on her favorite basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Claude Miller, and two sisters, Hazel Miller and Dorothy Winkler. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Fred C. Perry, of the home; two children, a son, Dennis Perry and wife, Linda, of Raleigh and a daughter, Lana Perry of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Brian Perry and fianc�, Cathie Groner of Mt. Holly, Susan Brittain, and husband, Todd, of Mt. Holly, and Jennifer Perkins, of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Brittain and Nicole Harris. Funeral services for Lola Miller Perry will be conducted at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 6, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Boone. Officiating will be the Dr. Ron Bowie. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00, prior to the service, at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 131 Big Valley Street, Boone, NC 28607.
