Mrs. Francile Scott Shelley, age 74, of Banner Elk, died Saturday afternoon, October 1, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center. Born September 9, 1937 in Leeds, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Henry Fred and Frances Pruett Scott. Francile graduated from Ramsay High School in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1954, and from Auburn University in 1958. She was the first female mechanical engineering graduate from Auburn and was a brilliant student. She was a member of Mortar Board, Pi Tau Sigma and Tau Beta Pi. She was also a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Mrs. Shelley was an environmental engineer with the South Carolina DHEC. Francile was very active in the Episcopal Church in Columbia, South Carolina and Valle Crucis, NC. She was a talented artist, member of PEO for all her adult life and past President of her chapter.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin A. Shelley, Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth Shelley of Greenville, SC, and Melissa Guillotin and husband Bertrand and son Sebastien of Cary, NC; one son, Scott Shelley and wife Nan of Birmingham, Alabama; and one sister, Jane Griffin of Atlanta, Georgia and Annapolis, Maryland.
Memorial services for Mrs. Francile Scott Shelley will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o�clock at Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Officiating will be Rev. John Shields. Committal services will be private. The family will receive friends following the service in Skiles Hall.
