Obituary of Homer Prater

Homer Prater, age 83, of Deer Creek Crossing, Mountain City, Tennessee, and a former resident of Watauga County, died Monday evening, September 26, 2011 in Mountain City. Born July 14, 1928 in Panther, West Virginia, he was a son of Jeff William and Gracie Belcher Prater. Homer was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by three nieces, Kathy Earp of Boone, Gail Martin of West Virginia and Debbie Mullins of Tennessee; five nephews, Thurman and Billy Mounts, both of Thomasville, Danny Mounts of Asheboro, Roger Mounts of Tennessee, and Matthew Mounts of Sugar Grove.
A number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Jeff and Gracie Belcher Prather, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Mounts and Francis Heninger, and one brother, Clarence Prater.
Funeral services for Homer Prater will be conducted Saturday afternoon, October l, 2011, at 2 o'clock, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dan Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock, one hour prior to services, at Austin & Barnes.
