Obituary of Reverend Larry D. Campbell

Rev. Dr. Larry David Campbell, 74, of Bullthistle, Banner Elk, the Clarks Creek Community, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at his home. Born July 10, 1937 in Hickory, he was a son of Conrad and Mary Lee Waller Campbell. Larry completed his undergraduate studies at Lenoir-Rhyne College before attending the Lutheran Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC. Rev. Dr. Campbell served as pastor of Holy Communion Lutheran Church for more than 48 years. He was a member of the Foscoe Fire Department for a total of 25 years, and 18 of those years, served as Chief.
Larry is survived by his wife, Gaynell McEntire Campbell; two daughters, Lisa Gaye Campbell Lail and husband, James Edward, of Hudson, and Mary Kay Campbell Greene and husband Terry, of Foscoe; two sons, Larry Edward Campbell of the home, and William Brandon Lee Campbell of Fort Mill, SC; four grandchildren, Braden and Kaylee Greene and Alexis McKenzie and Emme Grace Campbell; two brothers, James Robert Campbell and wife, Carolyn, of Montgomery, Ala. and Daniel Conrad Campbell of Foscoe; one sister, Mary Alice McDaniel and husband, James, of Ninety-Six, SC; his mother-in-law, Maggie Lula Chapman McEntire of Wilkesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his entire church family at Holy Communion Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at 2 PM at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, officiated by Bishop Leonard Bolick and Dr. David Mielke.
Burial will follow in the Holy Communion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
