Obituary of Anna Butler Hoare

Mrs. Anna Butler Hoare, 89, of Coral Springs, FL and formerly of Elk Park, NC and Largo, FL, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 after a sudden illness. Born April 20, 1922 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of James Wilson Butler and Anna Piquette Butler, she was the beloved wife of Francis Charles Hoare, MD, to whom she was married for 61 years. Mrs. Hoare lived in Pinellas County, Florida for 30 years where her husband practiced surgery. She was a homemaker who also was active in the Morton Plant Hospital Auxiliary, Episcopal Church Women and Footlight Theater. In 1978, she and her husband moved to the Boone area. Mrs. Hoare was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Clearwater, FL and then Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Banner Elk, NC. She was an avid bridge player who also enjoyed needlework, collecting antiques and travel. Mrs. Anna Butler Hoare is survived by four children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Charles and Jeannie Hoare of Tallahassee, FL; Deborah Stewart of Butler, TN; Geoffrey Hoare and Lea Florence of Gainesville, FL and their children Nora Beauchamp and Gabriel Hoare; Barbara and Michael Murphy of Coral Springs, FL and their children Jennifer Hatton, Duncan Pace and Benjamin Pace and by great-granddaughters Julianna Hatton, Josephine Hatton and Spring Pace. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Friday September 23 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Banner Elk, NC, officiated by The Rev. John E. Shields. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Holy Cross Church for the Van Daalen-Farmer Pipe Organ fund or The Towel Ministry at 122 Skiles Way, Banner Elk, NC 28604.
