Obituary of Shaun V. Pendleton

Shaun Vincent Pendleton, age 49, of Boone, died Monday, September 5th, 2011. He was born September 28, 1961 in Sheiffeld, England to Vincent and Katheryn Pendleton. Shaun currently served as head coach of the men�s soccer team at Appalachian State University. His 22 season career as head coach included two years at the University of Charleston (W. Va.) and 17 campaigns at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. His career winning percentage was the best-ever for Division II coach and ranks among the best in NCAA history across all divisions. As a player, Shaun was a two-time all-American defender at the University of Akron in 1984 and 1985. He also earned all-American scholar plaudits in 1985 and earned both bachelor�s and master�s degrees in physical education from Akron that same year. Shaun was inducted into UA�s athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. Survivors include his wife, Jody Stark Pendleton, and all coaches, players and friends of the Soccer community. A Celebration of Life ceremony for Shaun will be conducted Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at 12 noon at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, officiated by Father Dave Brzoska.
