Obituary of Robert L. Townsend

Mr. Robert Lewis Stephen Townsend, age 87, of Grandview Heights, Boone, died Tuesday morning, August 16, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center. Born May 1, 1924 in Avery County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Alice Davis Townsend. Mr. Townsend was a retired from the Boone Police Department. He was a member of Watauga Baptist Church. Robert was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and CB radios. He is survived by his wife; Ellen Moore Townsend, three sons; Charlie S. Townsend and wife Joanna of Gastonia, Danny Townsend and wife Judy of Blowing Rock, and Michael Townsend of Boone, a daughter in law; Sabra Townsend of Boone, two grandchildren; Eddie Townsend and wife Amy of Deep Gap and Ellen Shook and husband Glenn of Deep Gap, three great grandchildren; Hunter Shook, Hayla Shook and Brahm Townsend, a daughter-in-law, Sabra Townsend and by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charlie and Alice Davis Townsend; one son; Bobby Townsend, two sisters; Lucille Draughon and Mildred Barry and one half brother; Bynum Townsend. Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lewis Stephen Townsend will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o�clock at Watauga Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. R. D. Watson and Rev. Zane Tester. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Watauga Baptist Church, in care of David Shook, 214 Park Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604.
