Obituary of Theresa B. Greene

Theresa Brown Greene, 89, of Farthing Street, Boone, died Wednesday morning. August 10, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Born July l6, 1922 in Mooresville, she was a daughter of Marshall Franklin and Irene Hunter Brown. As a teenager, Theresa moved to Boone, graduated from Appalachian High School, then attended Appalachian State Teachers College. She was happily married to G. Perry Greene, Sr. for 65 years. She loved her family unconditionally.
They had three children, Perry, Jr. �Skip� Greene and wife, Dee, Ted Greene and wife, Connie, and Nancy Williams and husband, Dan, all of Boone; seven grandchildren, Amy Greene, Alison Hough and husband, Cordell, Kevin Greene, and wife Laura, Dr. Nicholas Greene and wife, Elizabeth, Ben Williams, Tyler Williams and wife, Christy, and Hannah Williams; five great-grandchildren, Isaac Franklin-Williams, Cole Hough, Ada Joy Williams, Amelia Greene and Elliott Williams. She is also survived by sister, Dot Godwin of Charlotte, brother, Marshall Franklin Brown and wife Marilyn, of San Diego, Cal.; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Brown of Charlotte and Judy Brown of Belmont, Cal.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Ted Brown.
Theresa loved her vegetable garden and took great pride in her flowers. She spent many years educating others about flowers as she served with local garden clubs and hosting at the Daniel Boone Gardens.
She taught the love of Jesus and she lived the love of Jesus to all she met.
Mrs. Greene was an active member of First Baptist Church of Boone where she served in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher, the nursery area, mission leader to young people in their formative years, and leading young ladies in GA�s. She was active in all the church women�s activities.
Theresa felt the call to missions in the mid l980�s to use her gift of hospitality. She served as hostess for volunteers and mission personnel in Togo, West Africa for more than two years. There she developed a new family with a full set of sons, daughters, nieces and nephews, relationships that have continued to this day.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, August 12th, from 5:30 until 7:30 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church.
A celebration and thanksgiving of her life will be conducted Saturday afternoon, August 13, 2011, at 2 pm, at the First Baptist Church of Boone, officiated by Rev. Roy Dobyns and Rev. Kevin Wilson. Interment will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family suggests memorials to the Baptist Theological Seminary in Togo, West Africa, in care of the First Baptist Church, 375 West King Street, Boone, NC 28607, or in the designated envelopes available at the church. Togo was a very special place to her where she saw God�s love expressed to all.
