Mr. Archie Lee Matheson, age 71, of the Tom Ward Road, Sugar Grove, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon June 11, 2011 at home.
He was born in Watauga County to the late Rev. Rayner Matheson and Gladys Glenn Matheson on February 26, 1940. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Archie was an avid builder until his retirement, and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and his two dogs; Mutt and Jeff. He will be missed by his family who loved his so, and all the friends he gathered along the way.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; Lennis Ward Matheson; one daughter; Pamela M. Beach and husband Jerry of Vilas; two sons; Scottie Lee Matheson and wife Debbie of Sugar Grove and Everette Lyle Matheson and wife Angie of Banner Elk; two granddaughters; Jennifer Leigh Fordham and husband Patrick of Boone and Holly Renee Moore and husband Terry of Valle Crucis, one grandson; Adam Wayne Beach of Vilas, one step grandson; Jeffery Wayne Beach of Zionville; two great grandchildren; Nathan Allen Moore of Valle Crucis and Laurene Asheleigh Elizabeth Hawks of Boone; one brother; Tony B. Matheson and wife Margaret of Vilas; two sisters; Genevieve Greene and husband J. C. of Vilas and Glenda Norris and husband Burl of Boone; his mother in law; Chloe Ward of Sugar Grove and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Beacher Lane Matheson and Lester Matheson, one sister; Gerlene Matheson Jones and a son in law; Douglas Neil Roberts.
Funeral services for Mr. Archie Lee Matheson will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o�clock at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church, 542 Tom Ward Road, Sugar Grove, NC 28679. Officiating will be Elder Bobby Horton Absher. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1 until 2 o�clock. Burial will follow in the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Cemetery; also know as the Ward-Matheson Cemetery. The family respectfully requests no food.
