Obituary of Howard G. Phillips

Howard Grady Phillips, age 83, of Snowy Oak Road, Boone, died Friday morning, January 25, 2008 at his home. He was born March 13, 1924 in the Todd Community of Watauga County to Robert Hill and Martha Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Pilot Mountain Baptist Church. He retired as a carpenter from Greene Construction Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII.
Mr. Phillips is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Clara Hartley Phillips; three daughters, Clara Virginia Jeppi and husband Joe of Baltimore, Md., Mary Katherine Addis and husband Jimmy of Glen Burnie, Md.; and Joan Alderson and husband David of Boone; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Carlton and husband Harold of Deep Gap and Viola Greene of Boone; and one brother, Willard Phillips of Baltimore, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Phillips, one grandson, Richie Whitfield, three sisters, Mabel Phillips, Virginia Bowles and Opal Norris, and three brothers Robert, J. D. and Russell Phillips.
Military graveside services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Hartley Cemetery in the Cool Springs community, officiated by Rev. Delmar James.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes.
