Obituary of Dixie Mae H. Hayes

Mrs. Dixie Mae Hodges Hayes, age 87, of Baird's Creek Road, Vilas, died Friday morning, January 25, 2008 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born May 22, 1920 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late James Gilbert and Florence Presnell Hodges. Mrs. Hayes was retired from ASU, and was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Dwight W. Hayes, one daughter, Linda Gragg of Vilas, one son; James Hayes and wife Julie of Vilas, six grandchildren; Rick Hayes of Newton, Dixanna Howell and husband David of Newton, Mark Gragg and wife Jennifer of Lewisville, Robert Gragg and wife Melissa of Hiddenite, Carrie Hayes and Matthew Hayes both of Vilas, seven great grand children and one great great grandchild, and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William H. "Bill" Hayes, and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dixie Mae Hodges Hayes will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Wynn Greer and Rev. Carl Wilson. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon prior to the service from 1:30 until 3 o'clock at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund, in care of Rev. Wynn Greer, 201 Circle Drive West, Vilas, NC 28692, or to High Country Health Care System Hospice, 400 Shadowline Drive, Suite 100-B, Boone, NC 28607. The family would like to especially thank everyone for the prayers, support and food.
