Obituary of Ernest D. Dancey

Mr. Ernest Dean Dancey, age 83, of Poplar Hill Drive, Boone, died Wednesday morning, May 18, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center. Born September 11, 1927 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Connolly and Chaney Grogan Dancey. Ernest was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and was a Past Master of Snow Lodge # 363 AF & AM. He was retired from Winn-Dixie where he worked as the produce manager for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Vines Dancey, one son; Dewayne Dancey and wife Missie of Boone, one daughter; Gina Whittington and husband Randy of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, two grandchildren; April and Chase Whittington of Zionville, and one sister Juanita Sanders of Zionville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters; Addie Brown, Mabel Isaacs and Julie Gantt and four brothers; Denver, Bynum, Burney and James Dancey. Funeral services for Mr. Ernest Dean Dancey will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Herbert McCoy. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o'clock. Masonic graveside rites and burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Poplar Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 1228 Poplar Grove Road South, Boone, NC 28607.
