Obituary of Annie B. Grimes

Annie Bell Grimes, age 101, of Church Street, Boone, died Saturday evening, April 23, 2011 at the Watauga Medical Center. Born September 2, 1909 in Mountain City, TN, she was a daughter of Pete and Lillie Frances Preston Landers. Mrs. Grimes was a member of the former AME Zion Methodist Church in Mountain City and attended the Boone Mennonite Brethren Church. She was a school teacher in Butler, teaching grades one through eight and later was the housekeeper at Boone United Methodist Church. Mrs. Grimes was named Watauga County's Senior of the Year in 2010. Surviving are one sister, Mary Wellington of Bristol, TN; her granddaughter, Darlene Turner of Boone; and several step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend, Wanda Brown. She was preceded in death by her husbands, seven brothers, Bill, James, Floyd, Fred, Bruce, Fred and Walter Landers and three sisters, Ella Mae and Geneva Landers and Katherine Bowman. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, April 30, 2011, at 1 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ernie Widby and Rev. Chris Eidse. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12 until 1 o'clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Burial will follow in the Holy Hill Cemetery in Mountain City, TN.
