Frank Kenneth 'Ken' McKinney, age 67, of Bamboo Road, Boone, died Saturday morning, April 9, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center. Born April 13, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama, he was a son of Frank Gene and Edna Ruth Pass McKinney. Dr McKinney retired from ASU as a geology professor and was a member of St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church. Ken is survived by his wife, Majorie Jackson McKinney; two sons, Michael Andrew McKinney and wife Glenna, of Perry, Kansas, and Benjamin Lochlear McKinney of Hickory; two daughters, Rachel McKinney of Washington, DC, and Mariama McKinney Benfield of Butler, TN; and one sister, Betty Thompson of Springville, Alabama. Nine grandchildren, one great-grandson and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday morning, April 13, 2011, at 11 o'clock at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church, officiated by Father Rick Lawler. The family suggests memorials to St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church Choir Fund, Post Office Box 14, Blowing Rock, NC 28605, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
