Obituary of Barbara F. Ragan

Mrs. Barbara Farthing Ragan, age 75, of Wild Rose Lane, Boone, died Tuesday evening, March 15, 2011 at home. Born August 19, 1935 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of Pearl Graybeal Farthing and the late Albert Chester Farthing, Sr. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was retired from Brooks Plumbing where she worked for 20 years and was a member of the Home Extension Club.
She is survived by her children; Billy Ralph Winkler, III and wife Rhonda of Boone, Melinda Cook and husband Sonny of Huntersville, Debbie Cole and husband Tyler of Asheboro, and Danny Winkler and Karen Shook of Blowing Rock, her mother; Pearl Graybeal Farthing of Johnson City, TN; two brothers; A. C. Farthing and wife Anne of West Jefferson, and Bill Farthing and wife Libby of Johnson City, TN; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James Frankie Ragan and her father; Albert Chester Farthing, Sr.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Farthing Ragan will be conducted Saturday at noon at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Roy Dobynsand Rev. Gordon Noble. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Ministry, 375 West King Street, Boone, NC 28607 or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216 Glen Allen, Virginia 23058-5216 or to the Watauga Humane Society, PO Box 1835, Boone, NC 28607.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
