Obituary of Charles Henry Lowrance

Charles "Henry" Lowrance, age 83 of Claremont passed away Saturday November 16, 2013 at his residence. Born December 9, 1929 in Watauga County, he was the son of the late Joe Henderson and Hattie Tester Lowrance. Henry was a faithful member for 40 years at First Baptist Church in Claremont and loved his church, where he served as a deacon and chairman of the deacons for nearly 40 years. He retired from Broyhill Furniture after 38 years of service and was a US Army veteran who served during the Korean War. Henry loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors working in his yard and garden and was known for his bountiful vegetable garden which he shared with his family, neighbors and friends. Henry was loved and respected by his family and many friends and he dearly loved his family, including his wife of 55 years, his sons and daughter-in-law and always had a special place in his heart for his two granddaughters. He will be missed by all who love him, his family, neighbors and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Weldon Lowrance, 3 sisters, Thelma Shook, Mable Reese and Edith Lowrance and 4 brothers, Melvin, Marvin, Ralph and Frank Lowrance. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Beach Lowrance of the home; son, Jeff Lowrance and wife Janice of Mooresville; brother: Jimmy Lowrance wife Rena of Boone; two granddaughters: Anna and Avery Lowrance; and a number of nieces and nephews that were very close to him and considered him a truly special uncle. The family will receive friends from 2:00- 2:45 p.m. prior to the service and the funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Claremont with Pastor Dennis Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 16 of Newton. Memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church in Claremont.
