Obituary of Minnie Alice W. Hicks

Mrs. Minnie Alice Ward Hicks, age 71, of Charlie Hicks Road, Banner Elk, died Monday, evening, January 31, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center. Born July 27, 1939 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late London and Iva Lee Davis Ward. Mrs. Hicks was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband; Charlie Gilbert Hicks, two daughters; Brenda Oaks and Husband Charles and Joann Moretz and husband Andrew all of Banner Elk, three sons; Richard Paul Hicks and wife Beverly of Banner Elk, Wendell Hicks and wife Dora of Blowing Rock, and David Hicks and wife Susan of Banner Elk, thirteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one sister; Mary Lou Tester of Lenoir and one brother; Billy Ward and wife Mary Lee of Vilas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons; Bobby Charles Hicks and George Hicks, two sisters; Bertha Presnell and Faye Pope and three brothers; Joe, Jesse and John A. Ward.
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Alice Ward Hicks will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Dean Ward. Burial will follow in the Matney Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday morning prior to the service from 10 o'clock until 11 o'clock at the funeral home.
