Mrs. Ruth Taylor Oaks, age 78, of Boone, died Thursday afternoon, January 6, 2011 at Glenbridge Health Care & Rehabilitation. Born December 13, 1932 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Beatrice Cannon Taylor. Mrs. Oaks was retired from Shadowline, where she worked as a packer. She was a member of Beech Valley Baptist Church.
She is survived by five daughters; Becky Moretz and husband Jim of Zionville, Kay Floyd and husband Buddy of Raleigh, Rachel Partridge and husband Tom of Chesapeake, Virginia, Marilyn Oaks of Winston-Salem, Debi Fraley and husband Mike of Summerville, SC, one son; Gary Oaks and wife Terri of Jonesborough, Tennessee, three sisters; Betty Jean Triplett and husband Bob of Newland, Bonita Smith and husband D. C. of Banner Elk, and Margaret Cannon of Atlanta, Georgia, twelve grandchildren; James Moretz and wife Allison of Zionville, Heather Moretz of Zionville, Roger Oaks of Petersburg, VA, Toby Oaks and wife Melissa of Mt. Holly, Misty Oaks of Mt. Holly, Abra Floyd of Raleigh, Miranda Snyder and husband Rich of Montgomery Village, Maryland, Tommy Partridge of Chesapeake, Virginia, Erin VanDeweerd of Winston-Salem, Jacob Stanberry of Winston-Salem, Brook Thomas and husband Roger of Raleigh and Paige Hamlett and husband Allen of Charlotte, fourteen great grandchildren and her good friend and neighbor; Brady Cheek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Oaks and three brothers; Billy Potter, R. L. Taylor and Roger Taylor.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Taylor Oaks will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Quincy Norris and Rev. Derick Wilson. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon until 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
