Ms. Jean Camden Martin, age 79, of Boone and a former resident of Roanoke, Virginia, died Wednesday morning at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living. Born August 5, 1928 in Roanoke, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late E. R. and Millie Garst Camden. Mrs. Martin was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. She had formerly worked at C & P Telephone and the American Red Cross in Roanoke. Surviving are two daughters, Sue Newell and husband John, of Blowing Rock and Connie McCraw and husband, Ed of Hartsdale, New York; two grandchildren, Amy and Jeff Newell of Blowing Rock; one brother, Donald Camden of Dillwyn, Virginia; one niece, Beth Scott of Salem, Virginia; and one nephew, David Camden of Roanoke. A memorial service for Ms. Jean Camden Martin will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone, officiated by Dr. Ron Bowie. Graveside and memorial services will be Monday in Roanoke, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Post Office Box 1903, Boone, NC 28607 or to High Country Health Care System Hospice, 400 Shadowline Drive Suite 100-B, Boone, NC 28607. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
