Myrtle Grogan Norris, 96, of Milton Brown Heirs Road, Boone, and formerly of the Big Hill Community died Wednesday morning, December 22, 2010, at Glenbridge Health Care & Rehabilitation. Born August 14, 1914 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Robert and Elizabeth McGlamery Grogan. Mrs. Norris was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. Her family was the love of her life and her hobbies included her vegetable garden, crocheting afghans and hand tying bed canopies.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her children, Bobby Joe Norris and wife, Anne, of Julian, NC, Georgia Matheson and husband, Hubert, of Boone and Mike Norris and wife, Marie, of Boone, daughter-in-law, Martha Norris of Boone; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Norris, one son, G. C. Norris, two sisters, Agnes Younce and Ruby Brown, and four brothers, Ernest, R.L., Olin, and James Grogan. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 24, at 12 o'clock, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Cindy Shelton. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10 until 12 o'clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services and burial will be private.
