Mr. Dorman G. �Doc� Cook, Sr. 89, of Will Cook Road, Boone, died Monday afternoon, December 20, 2010 at Blowing Rock Hospital. Born in Watauga County December 9, 1921, he was a son of the late Roscoe and Ina Elrod Cook. Mr.
Cook was retired from TRW/IRC where he was a tool and die maker and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. �Doc� was an avid sports fan who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and baseball; particularly the New York Yankees. He loved his friends and family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; Ruth Eggers Cook, one son; Dorman G. �Sonny� Cook, Jr. and wife Melinda of Huntersville, one daughter; Crystal Ellis and husband Steve of Mocksville, three grandchildren; Jeff Cook and wife Holly of Denver; Karen McVickers and husband Travis of Stanley, and Lauralynn Ellis of Mocksville; two great grandchildren Ava Cook and Grace McVickers; two brothers; Dane Cook and wife Billie and Grant Cook and wife Zola all of Boone and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Roscoe and Ina Elrod Cook and three brothers; Billy, Boyd and Mack Cook.
Funeral services for Mr. Dorman G. �Doc� Cook, Sr. will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Bud Russell. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday prior to the service from noon until 2 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society Relay For Life, in care of Glenda Hodges, 810 Parkcrest Drive, Boone, NC 28607, or to the Will Dicus Indoor Baseball Facility, in care of Watauga High School, Attention Tom Kip, 300 Go Pioneers Drive, Boone, NC 28607.
