Obituary of Viola W. Guy

Viola Ward Guy, age 88, of Russ Norris Road, Elk Park, (the Old Beech Mountain Community) died Friday morning, December 10, 2010 at Watauga Medical Center. Born Viola Ward December 20, 1921 in Avery County, she was a daughter of Samuel and Effie Ward. Mrs. Guy was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church. Her career was her family. She was a caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Guy is survived by two daughters, Loretta Guy Clawson and husband, L.D., and Freida Guy Moore-Culler & husband, Alvis, all of Boone; five grandchildren, Larry Clawson and wife, Alicia, of Cary,NC, Sheri Clawson of Raleigh, NC, Mark Moore and wife, Sarah, of Old Beech Mountain Community, Amanda Johnson and husband, Daniel, of Morganton, NC, and Tommy Moore and wife, Melanie, of Blowing Rock, nine great-grandchildren, Alex and Nicholas Clawson, Austin and Andrew Moore, Brandon, Matthew and Tiffany Johnson, and Haley and Christopher Moore. She is also survived by one sister, Juanita Ward Guy of Zionville. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch Guy, three brothers, Troy, Cecil and Stacy Ward and two sisters, Myrtle Ward Clawson and Joyce Ward Harmon. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday evening, Dec. l5, 2010, at 7 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Steve Goss. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 until 7 o'clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock at Flat Springs Baptist Church Cemetery (Old Beech Mountain Community), officiated by Preacher Dean Estep.
