Obituary of James A. Dancey

James Arris Dancey, age 77, of Howard's Creek Road, Boone, died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Watauga Medical Center. Born May 19, 1933 in Watauga County, he was a son of Connolly and Chaney Grogan Dancey. Jim was Chairman of the Board of Deacons at Rich Mountain Baptist Church. He owned and operated D & B Mini Mart for more than 20 years. Mr. Dancey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Clara Moretz Dancey; daughter, Debra Dancey Bodsford of Kannapolis; son, David Glenn Dancey of Boone; three grandchildren, Rachel and Matthew Bodsford, both of Kannapolis and Meghan Dancey of Rising Sun, Md; one sister, Juanita Sanders of Zionville; and one brother, Ernest Dancey and wife, Jean, of Boone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Addie Brown, Mabel Isaacs and Julie Gantt and three brothers, Denver, Bynum and Burney Dancey. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, October 31, 2010 at 2 o'clock at Rich Mountain Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Carter Moretz and Rev. James Hagaman. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o'clock. Graveside services will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 o'clock at Rich Mountain Baptist Church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Erma and Johnny Pennell, 4620 Howard's Creek Road, Boone.
