Obituary of Earl V. Watson

Mr. Earl Vernon Watson, age 80, of Delmar Street, Boone, made his journey home Saturday evening, October 16, 2010. Born in Watauga County March 23, 1930, he was a son of the late Otis Jones Watson and Alma Irene Minton Watson. Mr. Watson was retired from the US Forestry Service where he operated the Boone fire tower for over 30 years. He also worked for the NCDOT during the summers for the road oil crew.
He is survived by two daughters; Kathy Miller and husband David of Boone, and Agnes Irene "Penny" Dancy and husband Allen of Vilas, one sister; Patsy Greene of Boone, three grandsons; Vernon Stevens of Boone, Steve Dancy and wife Trixie of Granite Falls, and Earl Dancy of Vilas, three great grandchildren; Dylan Stevens of Nashville, TN and Lillian and Kaycee Dancy of Granite Falls, two sisters in law; Shelby Eggers of Vilas and Betty Woodring of Todd, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; Lillie Mae Watson, and two brothers; Wayne Gray "Mutt" Watson and Ray Jones Watson.
Funeral services for Mr. Earl Vernon Watson will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Norris. The body will lie in state at the chapel from 1 until 2 o'clock. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Seby B. Jones Cancer Center, PO Box 2570, Boone, NC 28607.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 o'clock until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence 285 Delmar Street, Boone.
