Obituary of Gail Williams

Mr. Henry Gail Williams, U.S. Navy Retired, age 82, of Poplar Grove Road South, Boone, died Sunday morning, October 17, 2010 at his home. He was born May l5, 1928 in the Shulls Mills community of Watauga to Chick and Jessie Garland Williams. First Class Boats Mate Williams retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years service and also retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Boone. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 60 years, Minnie Dotson Williams; son, Larry Williams of Lenoir; two grandchildren, First Class Petty Officer Danny Williams and wife, Farrah, of Camp Pendleton, California, now serving as a Navy Corpsman in Afghanistan, and Melinda Combs and husband, Barry, of Lenoir; three great-grandchildren, David, Dawson and Natalie Williams; two brothers, Dean Williams of Limestone, Tenn. and Nick Williams and wife, Teresa, of Boone; and one sister, Iris Parsons of Boone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chick and Jessie Garland Williams and daughter-in-law, Edwina Williams. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday morning, October 21, 2010 at 11 o'clock at the Piney Grove Cemetery in the Poplar Grove community.
