Obituary of David C. Townsend

David C. Townsend, age 75, of Townsend Trail, the Foscoe Community, Boone, died Friday evening, August 20, 2010 at the Watauga Medical Center. David Carl Townsend was born February 19, 1935 in Avery County to Carl Joseph and Blanche Marie Shook Townsend. He was a veteran of the US Army and had been employed as a groundskeeper at the Hound Ears Golf Club for the past 42 years. David loved the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed riding his Harley. He was a member of the Creek Side Hunting Club. Mr. Townsend is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ruth Townsend; two sons, Ronnie Len Townsend and wife, Kim, of the Foscoe community and Donnie William Townsend and wife, Shannon, of the Meat Camp community; one granddaughter, Nicole Townsend of the Meat Camp community; one sister, Ruth Townsend of Laurel Springs, and one brother, Paul Dayton Townsend of Banner Elk. He is also survived by three life-long friends, Laurel Miller, Bradley Teague and Wendell Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Joseph and Blanche Marie Shook Townsend, a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Townsend and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Townsend. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon, August 23, 2010 at 2 o�clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dr. Larry Campbell and Rev. Eric Proffitt. Burial will follow in the Matney-Liberty Community Center. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
