Obituary of James D. Shull

James Doughton Shull, age 92, of Rominger Street, Boone, died Friday, August 20, 2010, at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born May 13, 1918 in Watauga County, he was a son of Jordan Luther and Callie Matheson Shull.
Jim was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army. Mr. Shull was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He was employed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and was a farmer.
Mr. Shull is survived by one daughter, Betty S. Dishman & husband Bruce, of Sugar Grove; two grandchildren, Preston Dishman and wife Nichole of San Mateo, CA and Marcie Dishman of Sanford, NC; one sister, Mattie Shull Rominger of Sugar Grove and by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Edmisten Shull, six brothers, Simon, Bill, Sam, Fred, Arlis & Tiny Shull, two sisters, Jessie Mae Cannon and Opal Dean, by one half-brother, Ross Matheson and three half-sisters, Mamie & Ethel Yates and Lula James.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, Boone, officiated by Rev. Ray Greene, Rev. Jerry Shull & Dr. Sonny Younce. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o'clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Entombment with military honors will follow at the Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens Mausoleum.
The family respectfully requests no food and suggest memorials be sent to the Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation RESIDENT ACTIVITIES FUND, 2110 Milton Brown Heirs Road, Boone, or to the American Legion Post 130, 135 Bear Trail, Boone, NC.
