Obituary of Howard L. Henson

Howard L. Henson, age 77, of the Beaverdam Community, died Monday afternoon, August 16, 2010 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone. He was born March 6, 1933 to Don Lawson and Beulah Caudill Henson. Mr. Henson was a member of Henson Chapel United Methodist Church. Howard was a caring, giving person who was known around Watauga County and Mountain City, Tennessee for his gifts of candy, fruits, fresh vegetables or gold coins. He loved working on the farm with his two work horses and enjoyed feeding and playing with his dogs. For many years, Howard worked in the furniture industry in Lenoir where he lived and raised a son, Tommy Henson.
Mr. Henson is survived by his best friend and companion of 25 years, Marie Combs Henson; his extended family, Wanda Taylor and husband, Joe, of Boone and their children, John Taylor and wife, Kimberly, of Vilas, and JoAnna Wayt and husband, Chuck, and Daughter, Chloe, all of Lansing. He is also survived by a sister, Mildred Henson Younce and husband, Tommy, a niece, Theresa Campbell, and her children, Angie Reese and husband, Ronnie and son, Dalton; Justin Harmon and Chelsea Campbell; and two nephews, Keith and David Younce, all of Vilas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Cline Henson.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 18th at 2 o�clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 until 2 o�clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Burial will follow in the Henson Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
