Obituary of Fred H. Mast

Mr. Fred Hite Mast, age 91, of Johnson City, and a former resident of Boone, died Tuesday morning, December 18, 2007 at Johnson City Medical Center. Born March 1, 1916 in Watauga County he was a son of the late Newton and Rebecca Isaacs Mast. Mr. Mast was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a partner and the President of Trailway Laundry and Dry Cleaners and was a member of the Fisherman Club.
Surviving are his wife; Peggy Farthing Mast, two step-daughters; Lauren Pryor of Hendersonville, and Lynn Tester of Boone, two step-sons; James Tester of Hendersonville and Welch Casey Tester, Jr. of Sugar Grove, one sister, Rebecca Sue Lavoie of Statesville and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jewell Hagaman Mast, five sisters, Emma Taylor, Daisy Sheeks, Pearl Page, Grace Hunter, and Mildred Cornelius, and five brothers; Clint, Ray, Robert, Joe Clay, and J. D. Mast.
Funeral services for Mr. Fred Hite Mast will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Father John Zellner and Rev. Gordon A. Noble. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon prior to the service from 1 until 2 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cove Creek Preservation & Development, Post Office Box 344, Sugar Grove, North Carolina 28679.
