Betty Barnes Bower, age 82, of Summer Acres, Boone, died peacefully Tuesday morning, August 10, 2010 at her home.
Betty is survived by her five children, Betty Lee, David, John, Marguerite, and Virginia; one brother, David Barnes of Lenoir; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Barnes Bower (1969) and husband, David M. Bower (1999). Betty was born December 23, 1927 to David C. and Lillian Wilson Barnes, raised in Lenoir, and raised her family in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1972, she returned to her North Carolina roots. A lover of plants and flowers, she operated Betty's Greenhouse in Sugar Grove for 18 years, before retiring and moving to Boone. In addition to having a natural passion for flowers, she also had a passion for the Blue Ridge Mountains and her family. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed.
Service of Remembrance and Celebration for Betty Bower will be held on August 28, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Blowing Rock, NC at 2 PM. Food and fellowship will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Watauga County Humane Society, 200 Casey Lane, Boone, NC 28607.
