Chief Warrant Officer 5 Derrick Gwin Henry, US Army Retired, age 61, of Alex Wellborn Road, Deep Gap, died Tuesday morning, June 15, 2010 at the Davant Rehab and Extended Care Facility in Blowing Rock. Born May 21, 1949 in Phoenix, Arizona, he was a son of Dale and Lillian Hamrick Henry. Chief Warrant Officer 5 Henry retired from the U.S. Army with 33 years service. He was a helicopter pilot and served during three wars. Derrick was of the Baptist faith. CW5 Henry is survived by his son, Christopher Henry and wife, Patricia, and grandson, Gunnar, all of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Jennifer Robin Henry of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jolin Elise Conine and husband, Scott, of Atlanta, Georgia; his wife, Cornelia Henry of Vass, NC; his sister, Genea Daye Curran of Deep Gap; and Dara Kyser, of Deep Gap. Military Honors for Derrick G. Henry will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, June 23, 2010, at 3 o'clock at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
